IT'S HERE!

4 min read
I'll update in a bit with this journal.
But my Copy of "The Lost Girl" is here!
DEVOURING IT!
Review pending after digesting!

***UPDATE***

It warrants another reading, most because I was able to sit down and read it inside the parking garage at my school and I did not have an adequate lighting source.
I wish it was longer, I feel that more lore or background explanation/exploration would bring more depth to the history of the characters. It fell kinda light but its something you could read at leisure. I would have enjoyed some concept works (I know you show production arts Van, but I would have loved to see concept works) I was craving for more material, such as history, background, lore, production jokes and notes. I'm not saying it was 2 dimensional, but I wanted MORE! Content!

Now then, for those that bought the book because of Van (Ten Pas) *I DID!* you wont be disappointed.
If any of those that may be familiar, or taken note of, Van's progression with his art, it tends to fall on a few different tiers.

Here are some categorized examples of his work (My categorization might fall way out from his, so don't' take mine as word)

With sketchy Pieces

Up to nice solid flats

With warm toned with rough broad lines

Comic simple shades, along with broad lines
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/Ha…
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/ho…

To his richer works (richer means in terms of color, tones, detail, shading, many things)
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/Ba…
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/Co…
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/Br…
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/Ju…
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/DX…
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/ka…
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/wo…
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/sh…
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/Bo…
Granted, this one is a comic, but it fits the category
VanHeist.deviantart.com/art/Di…

This on is on his blog spot

Now then, for Lost Girl, his art falls in to Richer tier. (honest gushing time)
Its rich, full, lush. I need to look over it again because I honestly glaze over pieces that are in color sometimes (I have a time keeping focus on colored American comics, which is why my book shelf is filled with more B&W manga over anything.) I need to look over it again because this book shows Van's climb in to a different tier of his work.
If you ever did note, whilst he was working on Lost Girl, his art style became tighter, but grew in warmth when it came to shading and tones. It became more expressive in the warmth and depth. He would pop pieces up, and they would be drastically different from earlier works, commissioned pieces or not.
Lost Girl really allowed Van to show off (but I think he saw it a lot more as work XD ) and he also grew in his style.
My only thing was, having comic panels on black made it a bit tricky to read in a low light environment, so read in a good spot.
Oh, Van is good with Convenient Censoring, but his gore is rather top notch, not over the top, yet rather nice to admire (perspective wise, not that Guro stuff)

I really look forward on another project he does, weather if its the ever elusive Bomango collection or volume, or another comic piece.

Pluging!
Get the book from Arcana, for some odd reason Barnes & Noble is listing it as a June release, because that cake is a lie and I have a slice of it with me. www.arcana.com/view_issue.php?…

Other books illustrated by Van include
www.danpink.com/johnny-bunko Which is a very early work
Book about the Zappos store.
www.barnesandnoble.com/w/deliv…

And of course, the elusive TokyoPop (now extinct) Rising Stars of Manga Volume 6 (1st, or major noted Bomango appearance) and Volume 7, which has him writing a foreword.

Well then!

So Steve Jobs steps down as CEO of Apple Inc.

You can argue weather you hate the guy or adore him or are indifferent, but you'll probably never see such a meteoric recovery and rise from the grave the likes Apple has experienced, let alone what a single person did to turn a near bankrupt company to, in many opinions, an industry leader and pusher of consumer products.
Personally, Jobs for me is this rather enigmatic man who keeps a tight control on his appearance, but still manages to project such an aura of a sort grandmaster with subtle flare. Sure he may not be designing the machines, but he certainly is a driving force behind them, and he near virtually sells them just by holding them in his hands. I only wish he can pop his head up once ian while to say hello.
On the light side, he stayed on as CEO to his own company longer than Gates did. I think some folks won that bet a while ago.

Anyway, I think he is going to be my holloween costume this year.

"One more thing," as he would say…

Gonna finnish a commission and also complete the sort of off shoot of stories that I've ben letting simmer, hopefully I can bring them to full boil.
Going to start a new diet and workout plan, doc says my tryglycerides are a little above, and personally, i don't want to become dependent on lipitor or crestor in life when I could head this off when I can still make a long term impact.

There must be some reason I'm updating, aside from maybe I feel that people read this journal.

So far, classes are doing well, and I'm performing to what I expect that I am able to, considering that I am reading and taking notes.
Learned torch cutting and welding in my R&R class.  Now for one thing, it seems movies never get welding right. They show welding as something that throws pretty sparks and that can weld down (not supposed to), and cutting as some sort of blowtorch process that cuts metal.
If any of you ever try cutting or welding, consider it a skill that a pyromaniac would never have the patience to learn for.

Recently got a link to download the "Derezzed" Tron Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk.  Understand this; Daft Punk creating a cinematic score is not something you take lightly.  This is somewhat out of their elements, and rather than what they are known for in their discography, this is an entirely new foray for them to create a full fledge soundtrack set to another piece of work. This is music made to fit a theme, and considering that there is no theme for the duo save for the genre they work in, or more specifically, their sound, this really sets a new deviation for them.
I'm not critiquing them, I'm praising them for allowing themselves to create in a new direction to what they can do. Granted, the selection of the two is simply fit like a glove for the movie, it would be fascinating to see if they ever venture further than the Legacy soundtrack.

To top it all off, when Bear McCreary (BSG music fame) and Clint Mansell (Requiem for a Dream, Moon) are my personal favorites for relaxing or playing games with in the background, the upcoming Legacy soundtrack is going to be like jizz from the ears and ambrosia for the auditory senses.

Coming spoilers in reviews and opinions

MEGAMIND
Felt fast for some reason, but I found myself attracted that the way hair was rendered for some apparent reason. Dreamworks really went in with how hair was done in this, and probably coming from what they learned on HTTYD. For once, I thought the pop culture references fit rather well and didn't feel forced. If anything, the most recent production from Dreamworks, doesn't feel like watching Shrek, and more like watching supposedly Kung Fu Panda (need to see) and HTTYD (how To Train Your Dragon) and Monsters vs. Aliens. Personally I hate Will Farell as an actor (besides that he really isn't funny, and that he is grossly overpaid |1$ per $4.48 made|) but he does better as a voice actor in my opinion) and should probably go in to voice acting since he may be heading down Eddy Murpheis path.
Good job Dreamworks, you're getting the point that pop-culture cliches alone don't make a movie.

THE OVER 9000 FAVE/COMMENT PROJECT

In progress, hopefully I can tackle it during thanksgiving break.

Quick Disclaimer
_~=_~=_~=_~=_~=
I intend to give constructive comments other than neato and all that single sentence single word flybaikthanxbai stuff.  Also, if the works that are older and the artist has improved since then, I will make it time relevant from when I faved it compared to now.

Current Projects
================================================================

In other news though, I am open to requests or commissions for writing. Note me for details

All my plamo projects are on hold.  Free time is something that easily gets eaten by other things.

I've transfered whatever WIP works onto my ipod to work on them on the fly.  Hopefully this will make it easier to work for me when I have the time or get a random idea to work with. I've also taken to keeping my moleskin (reporter style) with me for random jotting and plot outlining.
Current works by title are:
Plantation (some sort of fetish story)
Trials (Another fetish story)
^Note me for what these two pertain to, that is if you give a flip^
Office Work  (Has to do with Arien connecting with a past flame) hopefully it opens up more of her personality for others
Mirror 2315: Jade Alana (Jade if she had a dopleganger with a more dominant personality) Gun for fire and jack of all trades
My Girl (an experiment meant to see how would I find my ideal girl) Surprisingly revealing
and a double private commission for :iconrolfplus: and mostly whittling it away slowly. Its coming along, just in fits in starts.

I've completed a draft script and submitted it to :iconvanheist: for approval. He's given it his approval as well as input and insight that I'm grateful getting, and that I'm more than happy to apply and adapt to the script.  I'm adding some more thigns to it and polishing the main body up so that he can look it over once more.  Very pleased that he likes it. (I may have a side job in scripting for comics!!!)
Need to clean up the exposition and then rebuild the main story to read better. Been chipping away at it, thankfully no real deadline is present.

All is good on the homefront,
